Most patients benefit from visiting the dentist every six months for routine checkups and professional cleanings. These visits allow our dental team to detect early signs of cavities, gum disease, and other oral health concerns before they become more serious. However, some patients may require more frequent visits depending on their oral health, medical history, or risk factors. Dr. Vilderman will recommend a schedule that’s right for you.
If you experience a dental emergency, such as a severe toothache, chipped or knocked-out tooth, or swelling, contact our office as soon as possible. Prompt care can often save a tooth and prevent further complications. In the meantime, rinse your mouth with warm water, apply a cold compress to reduce swelling, and preserve any broken or knocked-out teeth if possible. Give our team a call at (415) 231-3099!
Dental implants are considered one of the most reliable and long-lasting solutions for replacing missing teeth. With proper care and regular dental visits, implants can last many years, often decades. They function like natural teeth, providing stability, durability, and improved oral health. While no dental treatment can be guaranteed to last forever, implants are widely regarded as a long-term solution.
Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth, making it a popular alternative to traditional metal braces. Unlike braces, Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible and can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing. This offers trusted comfort and convenience for many patients. However, traditional braces may still be recommended for more complex orthodontic cases. Check out our Invisalign page to learn more.
Dental veneers are designed to be durable and long-lasting. On average, veneers can last between 10 and 15 years or longer with proper care. Maintaining good oral hygiene, avoiding habits like biting hard objects, and attending regular dental checkups can help extend their lifespan. Over time, veneers may need to be replaced due to normal wear.
Crowns and veneers are both used to improve the appearance and function of teeth, but they serve different purposes. A crown covers the entire tooth and is often used when a tooth is significantly damaged or weakened. Veneers, on the other hand, are thin shells placed on the front surface of the teeth to enhance their appearance. Veneers are typically used for cosmetic improvements, while crowns provide both strength and protection.
Professional teeth whitening treatments offered by our dentist are generally more effective and longer-lasting than over-the-counter home kits. In-office whitening uses stronger, clinically approved whitening agents and is performed under professional supervision for trusted, predictable results. While our at-home kits can provide some improvement, professional whitening can deliver more noticeable and consistent results in a shorter amount of time.
Cosmetic dentistry focuses on enhancing the appearance of your smile. Common treatments include teeth whitening, veneers, bonding, Invisalign, and sometimes crowns. These treatments can address concerns such as discoloration, chipped or uneven teeth, gaps, and alignment issues. Dr. Vilderman works closely with patients to create natural-looking results that complement their overall appearance.
Preventive dentistry plays a key role in maintaining long-term oral health. Regular cleanings, exams, and early intervention help prevent common issues like cavities, gum disease, and enamel wear. By addressing problems early, patients can often avoid more complex and costly treatments in the future. Preventive care also supports overall health, as oral health is closely connected to the rest of the body.
